Living with Rivers in Germany and in India:
Ecology, Religion and Economy at Elbe, Ganges and Yamuna

Would it be possible to develop a broader relationship with water by an exchange about the handling of rivers in different cultures? Rivers are saints and godesses, endlessly complex nature, space of memory, transport route, water supply and sewage, dynamic systems, technical works, space of income and of recreation, threat and beauty… This lecture evening will give an outline of concrete ideas about the handling of the Elbe. The lecture evening is a cooperation of the Yamuna-Elbe Projekct with the BSU Department of Urban Development and Environment, Ministry of Hamburg, the Department of Indian and Tibetan Studies of the Universität Hamburg, and the GIZ Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit.
